On the greenway along the Hudson River on Manhattan's west side. The park that runs along the Hudson River is called Fort Washington Park in this area. Washington Heights extends from 151st (or 155th, depending on the map) to 179th. 179th is Highway I 95 and the George Washington Bridge. Situated between Harlem and Fort George, Washington Heights is home to what was formerly known as the Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, now called New York-Presbyterian--The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, which covers a large area centered around 168th on the west side. |

Headed north

Looking back

We're coming to a promontory with picnic tables. NJ
Palisades are across the river. |

The little red lighthouse is beneath the George Washington
Bridge. I've seen it in a couple of movies, one featuring Meg Ryan. |

Manhattan and New Jersey skylines from the promontory.

The second shot was taken through a fence with barely enough room for the lens.

We've climbed one of two steep hills and will go
to Riverside Drive soon. We just passed under the George Washington Bridge,
so we are actually in Fort George now, but we'll begin that tour when
we reach the drive. |

Sailboat on the Hudson River

We'll cross under the Henry Hudson Parkway and go
up another level to Riverside Drive, where you can take the Fort George
Tour (if you are going around Manhattan's perimeter) or stay in Washington
Heights. |
