110th-118th, Morningside Drive to Morningside and Manhattan Avenues

Morningside Drive overlooks Morningside Park and parts of Harlem.

We'll take the hill down Morningside Drive to 110th, then make a left.

First, though, I wandered into the park for this photo.

Manhattan Avenue and 110th Street. St. John the Divine is at center.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Morningside Park near 114th

Statue of George Washington and General Lafayette on
114th. Morningside Avenue is to the left, Manhattan Avenue to the right. |

Manhattan Avenue just beyond the Lafayette-Washington
statue. Let's head over to Morningside Ave. and the Park. |

A ridge is present on most of Manhattan's west side north of 110th.

There are many daffodils here in the spring.

Park entrance near the Washington-Lafayette monument. Next: sculpture on the left

Sculpture near the entrance is a water fountain.

Man-made water lilies in the pond. There's a waterfall
to the right of the willows. Let's turn around and make our way to Central
Park West, which is called Frederick Douglass Blvd. north of 110th. (Central
Park ends at 110th.) |

Back on the Upper West Side: The Towers on 106th and Central Park West. I lived across the street from here many years ago when I lived in actor's apartment while he was on tour for a few months. The Towers served a number of purposes over the years including a hospital and/or sanitarium or rehabilitation center. I think it is residential now. On to the greenway at 99th, about a mile away, or go to 125th to pick it up! There is no greenway exit from 99th to 125th. Bikers, head for 97th and Riverside. |
