South Street Seaport

Harbor, Museum, Mall and Shops

South Street Seaport deck view

I'm on the top deck of the mall. Note the elevated East River Drive above South Street. The Drive is called the F.D.R. Drive uptown and the Harlem River Drive even farther uptown.

Harbors in New York

Sunbathing

Some like the harbor. Others like the sun on the East River side.

Boat from street

View of front section of the mall from street level.

South Street Seaport

This is the second floor deck. Ready for a rest stop or food? Inside the mall you'll find public restrooms on the second floor and inexpensive meals as well as fancy restaurants on the top floor. Restaurants are also available on the boardwalk. I lock my bike up on an outdoor umbrella stand or fence.

Deck's north view

Looking north from the deck gives us a very different view: The Lower East Side to the north as opposed to the Financial District to the south. The immediate area was home to the famous Fulton Fish Market established in 1821, but it recently relocated to the Bronx.

One of the ships is now a museum, one of several places devoted to seafaring history and lore.
