Terra cotta 74 Wall Street Wall Street

Tour of the Financial District, New York City

Wall Street is just a couple of blocks north of Delmonicos. If you look for 74 Wall Street, you'll see this terra cotta decorating the archway. Some nearby buildings a couple of blocks up past Wall Street are shown next. If you're taking the actual street tour, you may want to see Federal Hall next, which is on Wall Street and Broad.

In the following picture, I am being admonished for being on the plaza and am being asked to leave. There's very tight security everywhere down here. I don't know what the impressive building across the street is, but it is most likely a financial institution.

The picture after that is of Maiden Lane, taken from South William. Maiden Lane got its name when it was a stream where women did their laundry many years ago.

Federal Hall

We've arrived at Federal Hall at the corner of Wall Street and Broad. George Washington was inaugurated President of the United States here, but this Federal Hall was built around 1840. Washington's statue is in front of the building.

It gets dark in the afternoon with all the skyscrapers.

New York Stock Exchange top

When I climb the steps of Federal Hall, I'm looking at the New York Stock Exchange, which is actually on Broad Street, one building down from Wall Street.

The American Stock Exchange is down the street, but the exterior is rather plain. The next stop is the World Trade Center site. Using the above photo for navigation, you can go left here on Trinity Place or go to the front of on Trinity Church and then uptown for a couple of blocks. You won't miss it.

St. Pauls steeple and clock
The photo at the street corner was taken at the NE corner of the WTC site. St. Paul Chapel, shown here, played an important role in the aftermath of 9/11. It was open for the workers and families and provided many services for people. Note the clock on the steeple.

You may see this terra cotta across the street from the World Trade Center site.

World Trade Center site

This photograph of the World Trade Center site was taken from West Street, the other side of the site. The trees are in St. Paul's graveyard, and you can see the church steeple if you look carefully. Our next stop is City Hall Park. Go to the front of St. Paul and look for the park across E. Broadway.
