Bowling Green

Lower Manhattan next to Battery Park, just north of South Ferry to Staten Island

Bowling Green is across the street from Battery Park's northeast corner, where Battery Place meets Broadway. It's a couple of blocks uptown from South Ferry, past the half-cylindrical skyscraper. Just walk inland and look for a little park and the building pictured below. There are two subways stop near here: Bowling Green and South Ferry.

BG Smithsonian Museum American Indian

This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, both inside and out. Formerly a United States customs house, it is now home to the Smithsonian's Museum of The American Indian.

It is located across from Bowling Green Park.

Museums Native Americans

Bowling Green Park dates from about 1733. (I'll recheck history and add notes later.)

Bowling Green

Bowling Green Park has a VERY long history. I'll be posting information about the park and the return of peregrine falcons soon, information taken from plaques in the park.

Bowling Green view of Indian Museum

Construction work started on the subway after my early photos were taken. New archaeological discoveries were made, including some early walls in NYC. There is still a sidewalk in front of the museum.

Bull on East Broadway

Just north of the park on Broadway you'll find this tribute to American capitalism.

Our next stop is just a couple of blocks away. Turn around and take the street that runs along the left side of Bowling Green Park. As you reach the mid-section of the museum, you'll see Stone Street on your left. That's the street you want.
