Central Park, Tour 1

This tour (59th-81st Street) covers an area about 1.2 miles long and .5 mile wide (the full width of the park). Central Park extends from 59th Street to 110th Street and Fifth Avenue to Central Park West. Work on the park began 1858, the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, following approval by the N.Y. State Legislature five years earlier.
